About Arctic Space Technologies
Arctic Space Technologies hosts satellite ground station antennas and sells ground station passes from Piteå, Northern Sweden. The company owns and runs the Arctic Space Center there.
The company was founded in 2019. The Arctic Space Center was built in two years and went into operation in 2022. It is described as Sweden's largest privately owned ground station facility. About 40 antennas operate on site today. The site runs on wind and hydro power and sits next to the KoloDC datacenter near the polar circle.
Antenna hosting is the core service. Customers own and run their equipment. The company supplies the position, power, redundant fiber, security and local hands for installation. It helps with installation, frequency licensing and operations. It also handles the RF survey and the frequency licence. A site desk gives local support around the clock, with a one hour response time.
The site connects over two separate 100 Gbps fiber routes to European points of presence and internet exchange points. Each polar-orbiting satellite can get up to 12 passes a day.
Operators without their own antenna can use HIVE. This is the company's Ground Station as a Service network and antenna marketplace. Operators book passes and pay per pass. Antenna owners can list idle time on the same network and earn a commission each time another operator uses it.
The company also makes products. SCOUT is a flat-pack S and X-band antenna that ships on a pallet and tracks satellites within a day of arrival. FENIX FORGE switches between fiber, 4G and 5G, GEO and LEO links and keeps the same public IP, so sessions stay up. It was developed with ESA. Silent Comms is a receive-only satellite broadcast for encrypted briefings, maps and updates.
Eutelsat OneWeb, Viasat, Airbus, ESA, Kinéis, Kepler and Bradford Space use the site or work with the company. The company says its next sites will be in Canada and New Zealand.
