Almat Flying Academy

Almat Flying Academy is an independent flying school and club. Its main base is Wolverhampton Halfpenny Green Airport in the West Midlands, and it has a second base at Sywell Aerodrome in Northamptonshire. The school trains pilots from a first trial lesson through the PPL and NPPL to a Commercial Pilot Licence.

In the words of managing director Simon Kalas, Almat is "a small, friendly flying school and club" that aims for commercial school levels of professionalism inside a club atmosphere.

Training

• Trial flying lessons, in aeroplanes and helicopters
• Private Pilot Licence (PPL) and National Private Pilot Licence (NPPL), fast track or at your own pace
• Hour building, Night Rating and IR(R) courses
• Radio licence (FRTOL) and PPL theory
• Flight Instructor (FI), Class Rating Instructor (CRI) and a sponsored instructor course
• Modular route to a commercial career: CPL, Multi-Engine Piston (MEP) and Multi-Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR), delivered at Halfpenny Green with its training partner Central Flight Training
• ATPL theory through its partnership with Bristol Groundschool
• Aircraft rental and flight simulator hire for members

Aircraft

The fleet on its website includes a Piper PA-28 (G-BAHF), Cessna 152s (G-CINA, G-BNUL) and Cessna 172s (G-BOMS, G-BUJN).

Approvals

Almat is a UK CAA Declared Training Organisation (DTO) for private pilot training and an Approved Training Organisation (ATO) for commercial courses. Many of its instructors also fly commercially.
