It has flown medical evacuation and patient transfer missions since 2000 and is part of the International SOS group of companies. Its main area of operation is Africa and the Indian Ocean islands, with dedicated air ambulances also based in the Middle East and Asia.

How it works

The medical team assesses each case and recommends either a dedicated air ambulance or a commercial medical escort, depending on the patient's condition. Flight doctors and nurses trained in aviation medicine and critical care transport crew the missions. One accompanying person can usually travel with the patient at no extra charge, subject to aircraft capacity. Air Rescue works with insurers and assistance companies on approvals and direct billing.
