About Aerocare Flying Ambulance

Aerocare Flying Ambulance is an air ambulance company based at Bram Fischer International Airport in Bloemfontein, South Africa. It was established in 1978 and has been in aeromedical services for more than 35 years.

Its aircraft operate as dedicated airborne intensive care units. Each mission is staffed with a doctor and/or Advanced Life Support paramedic as standard practice. The team is airborne within one hour of activation and is on standby 24/7/365.

The company has bases at Bloemfontein and Kimberley. From these two bases it serves the Sub-Saharan areas of Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda and Angola, as well as South Africa.

The company is licensed to operate fixed wing aircraft and can land on gravel or dirt runways. It has approval from the South African Civil Aviation Authority to land at night without runway lights at some sites, and it has installed runway lights at those places.

Aerocare holds a contract with the Northern Cape Department of Health and owns ambulances at airports in the Northern Cape. The company says it has equipment and aircraft to fly and land in adverse weather, similar to that of the airlines.

All flight crew, including ground crew and aircrew, are trained on the special procedures approved by the SACAA. The company says it can create and maintain aviation and medical infrastructure for other organisations.
