About Aéroport Châteaudun

Châteaudun aerodrome is a small civilian airport in Châteaudun, France. A local public company, SPL Air Châteaudun, works with the Grand Châteaudun local authority to run and grow it. The local authority has owned it since 1 October 2022. The town has more than 110 years of aeronautical history.

The airfield has a runway of more than 2,000 metres and a control tower. A living area of 20 hectares sits next to it. Covered areas total 70,000 square metres. Outdoor aircraft parking covers 110,000 square metres. The base also has 12,000 square metres of workshops and warehouses and 8,000 square metres of offices. The Ministry of the Armed Forces dissolved the military unit based here in the summer of 2021.

Pilots and visitors can use the airport as an air stopover. They send a prior permission request, known as a PPR, before they land. A self-service AVGAS station runs around the clock. Payment is by credit card or customer account. The airport welcomes aviation professionals and the general public.

The airport invites aircraft makers, maintenance operators, training schools and flight schools to set up on site. It lies southwest of Paris, less than 1 hour 30 minutes from the capital. A five-year zone classification brings exemptions from corporate income tax and CFE tax. A revitalisation contract with the State also gives financial support for creating jobs.

Plans include aircraft maintenance companies (MRO) and business aviation with an FBO and access to public air traffic. They also include airside activities, the aerospace industry and aircraft parking. Training is part of the plan too, for pilots, aircraft mechanics and other aviation workers. Post-baccalaureate courses could run in the living area, like a small university campus. The airport also wants firms that work on air taxis and drones.

Tourism is another goal. The airport plans to promote the history of French military aviation through the CANOPEE collection. The aim is a green aerodrome with electric, hybrid and hydrogen aviation, and sustainable aviation fuel. An 83.6 hectare photovoltaic power plant is planned to produce 106 MWp of low-carbon electricity. It would help the Grand Châteaudun area, home to 41,000 people, become a Positive Energy Territory. The long-term aim is a full aeronautical competitiveness cluster, serving the 20 business zones of the area.
