AeroLEDs
LED aircraft landing, taxi, position and strobe lights, Boise, Idaho

About AeroLEDs
AeroLEDs is an aircraft LED lighting manufacturer at 8475 W Elisa St, Boise, Idaho. The company has made LED aircraft lights since 2006 and says it introduced the first LED based airplane lights. Since 2024 it has been part of Whelen Aerospace Technologies (WAT), the aviation lighting division of Whelen Engineering, and its products are sold through aircraft parts distributors, resellers and the AeroLEDs online shop. Its lights are used on experimental and certified general aviation aircraft, jets and turboprops, and on more than 15 military platforms.
Products
- SunSpot LED landing and taxi lights in PAR 36 and PAR 46 formats, including the SunSpot 36, 46, 64 and 100 W models, with a built-in pulse (wig-wag) mode.
- Pulsar NS and Pulsar 650 series navigation, position and strobe wingtip lights, and the NANO beacon and wingtip lights for experimental aircraft.
- AeroSun VXi and AeroSun Cx wingtip and landing light units, including wingtip conversion kits for Van's RV aircraft.
- Tail lights, anti-collision beacons and the StarLight LED wing inspection light.
- LED landing light kits for jets and turboprops such as the Falcon 50, 900, 2000, 7X and 8X.
- Cross reference lists for replacing Grimes, AeroFlash, SDI/Hoskins and halogen landing and taxi bulbs.
The company says its LEDs draw less than a third of the power of halogen bulbs, are rated for over 30,000 hours of operation, tolerate vibration because they are solid state mounted, and run at a 6500 K colour temperature for visibility. Converting a pair of xenon wingtip strobes to AeroLEDs units removes about 3 pounds of weight because the power supplies are built in.
Approvals
- FAA STC SA02386AK (Part 23 landing and taxi lights with an approved model list), SR02704SE (Part 27 rotorcraft) and ST01936WI (Part 25), with STC documents, installation guides and instructions for continued airworthiness published on the site.
- FAA PMA PQ5259NM and TSO approvals (TSO-C30c and TSO-C96a).
- EASA STC 10085098 for Part 23 aircraft, plus ANAC (Brazil) and Transport Canada approvals.
Cirrus
AeroLEDs sells STC approved PAR 36 landing and taxi lights that fit many Part 23 aircraft, but its website does not name the Cirrus SR20 or SR22 on a product page or in the published documents, and a search of the site for Cirrus returns no products. Cirrus owners should check the FAA approved model list for STC SA02386AK with the company or an installer before ordering.
