About Aeroclube da Madeira

Aeroclube da Madeira is a non-profit aero club based in Funchal on the island of Madeira, Portugal. It was legally constituted on 14 February 1980 to promote aeronautical and para-aeronautical activities on the island. Today it runs a flying section alongside several air sports and model sections.

Flight training and flying

  • Private Pilot Licence courses for aeroplanes, run as a certified training organisation
  • Scenic flights by day and by night, including flights over the islets around Porto Santo
  • Adaptation flights for licensed pilots
  • Combined activities for groups

Other sections

  • Paragliding (parapente)
  • Hang gliding (asa delta)
  • Aeromodelling, with a model airfield authorised at Chao das Feiteiras
  • RC car racing and slot car racing

History

The club grew out of an initiative in the late 1970s, when a Dornier 27 was brought to Funchal for teaching and a group of enthusiasts began recruiting members in 1978. Early activities included model aircraft building and parasailing courses, before powered flying was added.
