Flying With Your Dog on a Private Jet: Mumbai to Dubai and London
A charter broker explains how a dog flies in the cabin from Mumbai to Dubai or London: the rabies test, permits, how many months to allow, and a real relocation trip.

For most families, the dog is not luggage. It is family. On a commercial flight out of India, that dog usually travels in the cargo hold, alone, for hours. On a private jet, it sits in the cabin with the people it knows.

Pet travel has become one of the most common requests his team gets on the Mumbai to Dubai and Mumbai to London routes. "The flight is the easy part," he says. "The paperwork, the timing and the handover at each airport are where trips succeed or fail." Here is how it works, starting with a real trip.
A real trip: 5 people, 1 golden retriever, 1 new home
The client was a tech founder relocating his family to Dubai: 2 adults, 3 children and their golden retriever. This was not a holiday. It was a move, so on top of the family and the dog came a large amount of luggage.
They flew on an Embraer Legacy 650, a large cabin jet with space for the whole family, the dog and the bags without anyone feeling cramped.

The date moved once. The departure had to be rescheduled. Because every document was already in order, the team re-timed the aircraft, the crew and the airport handling without reopening the paperwork from scratch. On relocation trips, date changes are normal. Build in room for them.
The paperwork was finished before the trip was. Vaccinations, health records and approvals from the authorities in both Mumbai and Dubai were complete well ahead of departure. The dog's rabies blood test results were cleared with the Dubai authorities before departure, so there was no waiting period on arrival. On the day, nobody was waiting on a stamp.
Door to door, no handovers to strangers. Hype Luxury chauffeurs collected the family and the dog from home in Mumbai and drove them straight to the private terminal. Check-in and immigration took minutes, followed by a short, quiet wait in the FBO lounge before boarding. On board, the catering covered the family and the dog, including its usual food.
In Dubai, immigration was just as fast. Chauffeurs met them on arrival, and a separate vehicle handled the luggage. The family, the dog and every bag arrived at the new home together. The family has flown with Hype Luxury many times since.
The paperwork, and how far ahead to start
Flying private changes the cabin, not the rules. Every document a pet needs on a commercial flight, it needs on a private jet too. Both the UAE and the UK treat India as a higher-risk rabies country, so a dog leaving Mumbai needs a rabies antibody blood test, which adds months.
| Step | Mumbai to Dubai | Mumbai to London |
|---|---|---|
| Microchip (ISO, 15-digit) | Before the rabies vaccine | Before the rabies vaccine |
| Rabies vaccine | Required | Required |
| Rabies blood test | Required for pets from India | Sample taken 30+ days after the vaccine, at an EU-approved lab, result of at least 0.5 IU/ml |
| Wait after the blood test | None on arrival if the results are cleared with Dubai before departure | 3 months from the day the blood is drawn |
| Entry approval | MOCCAE import permit, applied for online, about AED 200 per pet, valid for a limited window | Great Britain pet health certificate; the pet must arrive by an approved route |
| Export from India | AQCS export health certificate, Mumbai | AQCS export health certificate, Mumbai |
| Start planning | 4 months out | 5 to 6 months out |
Mumbai to Dubai. The UAE's environment ministry (MOCCAE) issues the import permit. Apply only once the vaccine and blood test are done, and time the permit to the flight date, because it expires.
Mumbai to London. The UK's 3-month wait is fixed and runs from the day the blood is drawn. Miss it and the dog faces up to 4 months in quarantine or is refused entry. Private jets must also use an approved route, so choose the London arrival airport with this in mind before you choose it for convenience.
On both routes, India's animal quarantine service (AQCS) issues the export certificate. The UK rules come from the government's pet travel guidance, and the UAE rules from MOCCAE's pet import permit requirements. Rules change, so check both before you book.
Airport day, on both ends
The big advantage of flying private with a pet is the FBO, the private terminal. There is no cargo drop-off and no animal reception centre. The dog stays with the family from the car to the cabin.
In Mumbai, the chauffeur drives the family and the dog to the private terminal. Documents are checked against the export certificate, immigration takes minutes, and there is time for a short walk before boarding. A calm dog boards better than a rushed one.
In Dubai, the aircraft is met at the FBO. Ground handlers check the import permit, microchip and health papers. Once cleared, the dog leaves with the family, straight into a waiting car.
The point is to have one team running both ends, so nobody hands the dog's papers to a stranger at either airport.
Setting up the cabin for a pet
Hype Luxury briefs the operator and crew before the flight, so the cabin is ready when the dog walks on.
- A fixed spot. A bed or mat near the family, away from the galley and the door, so the dog has one place that is its own for the flight.
- A secure restraint. A harness or travel crate for taxi, take-off, landing and turbulence, agreed with the crew in advance.
- Its own food and water. The dog's usual food goes in the catering order. Changing a dog's food on travel day is a mistake.
- Floor and seat protection. Absorbent pads and covers, plus a cleaning kit on board.
- Comfort items. A familiar blanket or toy matters more than anything you could buy.
- Papers in the cabin. The full document folder travels with the family, not in the hold.
What owners ask most
Can my dog sit with us in the cabin? Yes. On a private jet the dog flies with the family, not in the hold. Each operator sets its own pet policy, so the broker confirms it before booking the aircraft.
Does a private jet skip the paperwork? No. The import permit, microchip, vaccines, blood test and health certificate apply whether you fly private or commercial.
How early should we start? Allow 4 months for Dubai and 5 to 6 months for London. The blood test and the UK's 3-month wait set the timeline, not the flight booking.
What if our date changes? Plan for it, as this client did. Most documents stay valid. Time-limited ones, like the UAE permit and the health certificate, are re-timed to the new date.
Can any breed fly to Dubai? No. The UAE bans or restricts some breeds, including pit bull types. Check before you plan anything else.
Should my dog be sedated? Talk to your vet. Most vets advise against sedation for flying, and a calm cabin with the family close by usually does the job.
The real luxury is no surprises
A private jet makes pet travel calmer. What makes it work is planning: the paperwork started months ahead, one team running both airports, and a cabin set up before the dog boards. Get those right and the dog arrives with the family, the way it should.
