Flying Engineer in 2026: a new site, the same address
In May 2025 we wrote that Flying Engineer would move to a new domain. It didn't. Here is what changed instead: a rebuilt site, a bigger directory and a lot more attention from AI assistants.

In May 2025 we announced that Flying Engineer would move from theflyingengineer.com to a new domain. In the end we decided against it. The address stays the same; nearly everything behind it has changed. This page replaces that announcement, so it doesn't mislead anyone who finds it.
One more thing, so there is no confusion: in October 2026 we also acquired flyingengineer.com. It is an extra domain that forwards to theflyingengineer.com, which remains our main address. No URLs change. Read the announcement.
Why we kept the address
Over the years, search engines, AI assistants, Wikipedia editors and thousands of aviation companies have linked to theflyingengineer.com. Moving would have meant asking all of them to follow us to a new address. Rebuilding the site in place was the better choice.
What changed
In 2026 we rebuilt Flying Engineer from scratch. For readers and buyers:
- A bigger directory: 21,000+ aviation companies in more than 100 countries, from charter operators and air ambulances to maintenance shops, flight schools and parts suppliers. You can search it from the companies page.
- Live empty legs: one-way private flights that operators fly anyway, collected on the empty legs page.
- Faster pages that work properly on phones, where most of our readers are.
- Checked articles: we are going through our older articles, updating facts against primary sources and removing pieces that no longer meet our standard.
For aviation companies:
- Claim your page: most companies are already listed. Find yours, click "Claim this listing" and keep it accurate.
- Quote requests from buyers go straight to your inbox.
- Simpler plans, from $79 a year, all on one pricing page.
The biggest change: AI assistants
The change we did not plan for came from AI. ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini and Perplexity cited Flying Engineer pages up to 15,167 times a day on our busiest day so far (Bing and Google AI data for the same day) when people asked about aviation companies and services. More buyers reach the companies in our directory through those answers, and more of them write to us directly: over the last two years we received more than 150 requests by email alone, for parts, pilot training, charter, aircraft purchases and more.
What stays the same
The mission is the one we started with: help people find the right aviation company, and help aviation companies get found. We write about the industry, keep the directory accurate and correct mistakes when we make them.
You can read more about the team on our about page, or get in touch.
