Chromalloy announced on 27 October 2026 in Amsterdam that Cargo Air ordered two sets of its PMA high-pressure turbine blades for the CFM56-7B engine. Deliveries are planned for 2027 and 2028. The news came on the first day of the MRO Europe show.
About the parts and the engine
PMA means Parts Manufacturer Approval. It is an FAA approval that lets a company other than the engine maker produce a replacement part. Chromalloy says the FAA certifies its PMA parts as equal to the original part.
The CFM56-7B powers the Boeing 737 Next Generation family. That includes the 737-600, 737-700, 737-800 and 737-900. It is one of the most common narrowbody engines in service.
High-pressure turbine blades work in the hottest part of the engine. Chromalloy won FAA approval for its CFM56-5B and CFM56-7B HPT blade in October 2025. The company casts, machines and coats each blade in its own plants.
Chromalloy has more than 60 FAA-approved PMA parts for engine gas paths. It also performs DER repairs and sells used serviceable material. The company works from more than 20 locations and has been in business for 75 years.
About Cargo Air and the ten-year link
Cargo Air is based in Sofia, Bulgaria, and was founded in 1997. It flies 14 Boeing 737-300, 737-400 and 737-800 freighters. The airline also runs ad hoc cargo charters for brokers, freight forwarders and logistics companies, including dangerous goods and outsized loads, and provides wet leases.
Cargo Air has used Chromalloy parts and repairs on its 737-300 and 737-400 freighters for about ten years. Russ Shelton, Executive Vice President, Business Development at Chromalloy, said Cargo Air has relied on Chromalloy for a decade and that the order shows the value of Chromalloy PMA and repair work for cargo operators.
Angel Petrov, Commercial Director and shareholder of Cargo Air, said, "We are very pleased to partner with Chromalloy to support our B737 fleet while unlocking substantial engine maintenance savings in the future"
