Air India has laid the foundation stone for a new maintenance hangar at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The ceremony took place on 22 October 2026, according to Indian Infrastructure.

What is being built

The hangar is a multi-facility MRO site on nine acres. It can hold one widebody and one narrowbody aircraft at the same time. The design has a clear height of 25 metres and large column-free spans, so it can take next-generation aircraft.

The aim is to strengthen Air India's in-house maintenance and improve fleet reliability. The report does not give the cost, the number of jobs or the opening date.

Why it matters

More hangar space in Delhi means an airline can do more of its own heavy checks near its main hub. It also adds work for suppliers of tooling, parts and skilled engineers in the region.
