Ontic has launched CargoCare, a new set of repair and support services for cargo airlines. The first service, announced on 19 October 2026, is an exchange and overhaul plan for one Boeing 747 part: the leading edge flap drive unit. Operators have found it hard to get these units back quickly when one has to come off an aircraft without warning.

Here is how it works. When an operator removes a unit and sends it in, Ontic ships a working replacement from its exchange pool right away. Exchange times start at 48 hours. Ontic then overhauls the removed unit at its repair shop in Tewkesbury, UK, and puts it back in the pool.

What operators get

  • A dedicated or shared pool, so they do not need to hold extra spare units
  • A flat rate for each overhaul
  • A longer warranty and flexible terms
  • Support from Ontic hubs in Europe, the Americas and Asia

Each package is set up around the operator's own fleet. Ontic says the 747 plan is the first of several. It wants to bring more aircraft types and parts under the CargoCare name as it grows its repair work.

Dave Mayne, Ontic's MRO Director for Europe and Asia, said cargo operators "can't afford to have aircraft sitting on the ground" while they wait for parts.

Where to find Ontic

See Ontic's page on The Flying Engineer. The company is on the exhibitor list for MRO Europe 2026 in Amsterdam (stand 1-142) and for NBAA-BACE 2026 in Las Vegas. For more sources of components and rotables, browse our aircraft parts suppliers.
