Wallace State Community College

Wallace State Community College is a public community college in Hanceville, Alabama. Its Aviation/Flight Technology program trains students for careers as commercial airplane or helicopter pilots, combining flight and ground instruction. Students can earn FAA Private Pilot, Instrument Rating and Commercial Pilot certificates, plus advanced ratings and flight instructor training.

Students can start in the spring, summer or fall semester. A transfer partnership with Athens State University leads to a Management of Technology degree with an Aviation Management minor.

Aircraft and training base

Flight training takes place at Cullman Airport. In 2020 the program added three Cessna 172 aircraft and a multi-engine trainer to its fleet to add glass cockpit and autopilot training. The program trains on both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.

Graduates

The college reports that graduates fly for American Airlines, Jet-Pep, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department and medical flight services for UAB and Children's Hospital.
