About Van Bortel Aircraft

Van Bortel Aircraft, Inc. is a pre-owned Cessna dealer at Arlington Municipal Airport (KGKY) in Arlington, Texas, about 20 miles south of Dallas Fort Worth Airport. Howard G. Van Bortel founded the company in 1985 in Rochester, New York, moved it to Arlington in 1989 with more than 50 Cessna Skyhawks in stock, and still runs it as a privately owned business with about 50 employees. The company calls itself the world's largest Cessna dealer and sells only Cessna aircraft: the 172 Skyhawk, 182 Skylane and Turbo Skylane, 206 Stationair and the TTx, 400 and 350 low-wing singles.

Sales

  • Pre-owned Cessna single-engine aircraft inventory, with trade-ins and international sales
  • The company flies the aircraft to the buyer's ramp for inspection by the buyer and their mechanic at no cost or obligation
  • Purchase protection plan: a full refund if the aircraft is returned within 30 days or 30 hours, 90 percent within 180 days or 60 hours, and 85 percent within 365 days or 100 hours
  • A "Sell My Cessna" programme for owners looking to sell, and a parts department
  • Van Bortel Finance Corporation, set up in 2010 to finance Cessna aircraft for customers

Service and avionics

The in-house service department has worked exclusively on Cessna single-engine aircraft for more than 25 years and holds FAA repair station certificate VNFR171L. Its website describes it as a factory authorized Cessna Service Center and says the Cessna Aircraft Company gave it a Cessna Propjet Service Center designation in 1997. Technicians cover the Cessna 172, 182, 206, 350, 400 and Caravan, with four dedicated technicians for the Cessna 400, and an avionics department handles repairs and new installations. Air Power, Inc., established in 1992, sells factory engines and parts to Van Bortel customers.

Team

The team directory lists Howard G. Van Bortel as president, George E. Van Bortel as vice president of sales, and a sales, finance, operations and marketing staff alongside the A&P and IA inspectors of the repair station. The company has bought additional hangars in 2000, 2006 and 2012 as it grew.
