University of Alaska Anchorage

The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is a public university in Anchorage, Alaska. Its Aviation Technology Division, part of the Community and Technical College, trains pilots, aircraft maintenance technicians, air traffic controllers and aviation managers. The division is based at the Aviation Technology Center at Merrill Field in Anchorage.

Programs

• Professional Piloting: Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Professional Piloting, typically two to three years, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Aviation Technology with a Professional Piloting concentration, typically four to five years. The pilot training program is certificated by the FAA under Part 141.
• Aviation Maintenance Technology: AAS degree plus separate Airframe and Powerplant certificates, approved by the FAA as an aviation maintenance technician school under Part 147.
• Air Traffic Control: AAS degree that prepares students for the FAA Training Academy and the FAA Flight Dispatcher exam, linked to the FAA Collegiate Training Initiative.
• Aviation Management: programs for airline and airport operations and freight and cargo management roles.

Restricted ATP eligibility

UAA states that graduates of the AAS in Professional Piloting can qualify for a Restricted Airline Transport Pilot certificate with as few as 1,250 flight hours, and BS in Aviation Technology graduates with as few as 1,000 hours.
