Tyrol Air Ambulance

Tyrol Air Ambulance (TAA) is an air ambulance company based at Innsbruck Airport in Austria. It has flown international patient transports since 1976 with its own fleet of ambulance jets. Every flight carries a doctor and a qualified nurse, and the company works worldwide, around the clock.

Air ambulance services

• Ambulance flights: transfers between hospitals and repatriation of patients from abroad
• Incubator and child transports, with aircraft fitted with an incubator and medical teams for children
• Infectious patients, carried in an isolation chamber, with the aircraft disinfected after each flight
• ECMO transports for patients who need external lung support
• Organ transports, with aircraft that can carry organ preservation systems, in cooperation with transplant centres
• Bed coordination at the receiving hospital and ground transport at both ends

Travel assistance

• Medical case management, fit-to-fly checks, travel medicine and telemedicine advice, and a medical interpreter service
• Medical escorts who accompany patients home on scheduled flights
• Cost containment for medical bills in expensive countries
• Technical assistance for travellers: roadside help, replacement cars, unplanned overnight stays and vehicle return

Fleet

The fleet page shows a Cessna Citation 550B and a Gulfstream G100, fitted with medical equipment. Earlier company information gave a fleet of five aircraft, a staff of more than 80 and about 2,300 cases a year. The company has its own maintenance and licensed technicians.

History

• 1976: founded in Innsbruck to transport patients with specialised care
• 1983: helped set up helicopter rescue for the Christophorus air rescue association
• 1990: launched a scheduled airborne ambulance service
• 1999: management buy-out, becoming a subsidiary of Welcome Air
• 2000: renamed Tyrol Air Ambulance
