About Tweed-New Haven Airport

Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) is an airport in New Haven, Connecticut. The airport is three miles southeast of downtown New Haven. It is operated by Avports under the authority of the Tweed New Haven Airport Authority.

The site says the airport connects travelers to 33 or more destinations across the United States. Its parking lots are called Lot A, Lot B and Lot C. The site also lists an off-site park and ride at the Long Wharf Garage, which needs a reservation.

The site gives advice for passengers. Checked bags must be tagged 45 minutes before departure. The ticket counter opens two hours before departure. Boarding starts 35 minutes before departure and closes 15 minutes before. Passengers with only carry-on bags can go straight to security.

The airport is building a new terminal of more than 60,000 square feet. It is also extending the runway. The site says the project is meant to support job creation, economic growth and new destinations.

The site gives a short history of the airfield. The city chose the site in 1922 and bought it for $65,000. The airport opened in 1931. Long Island-Connecticut Airways began scheduled service in 1933, and American Airlines followed in 1934. During World War II, an air base squadron took over the airport in 1942.

The airport has general aviation pages on fixed base operator services, the current airfield condition, airport facility information, rates and charges, and noise abatement. The community section covers noise and air quality management. The mailing address is 155 Burr St., New Haven, CT 06512.
