About SPHAIR

SPHAIR is a Swiss organisation that screens candidates for pilot and parachute reconnaissance careers. It works on behalf of the Swiss federal government. Its main contact is c/o Aero-Club der Schweiz in Lucerne.

The pilot screening is a one day assessment with a flight course. The site describes a two week flight course with 10 flight hours. Participants can take the controls on day one and get an insight into the daily work of a pilot.

The parachute reconnaissance screening is a parachute course. The site says 50 jumps lead to the SPHAIR certificate. The screening gives a federally recognised certificate to become a pilot or a parachute reconnaissance member.

The site lists career paths for military jet pilots, military helicopter pilots, drone pilots, airline pilots and parachute reconnaissance. It has a career planner, a media hub with pilot stories, and a page for each career step.

Partners named on the site include the Federal Office of Civil Aviation, the Air Force pilot school, the aviation medical institute, Aero-Club der Schweiz, Pro Aero, Swiss, Edelweiss, Helvetic, Rega, Swiss Helicopter, Skyguide and Lufthansa Aviation Training.

Screening centres are listed in Dubendorf for pilots and at the Theodor Real barracks for parachute reconnaissance. Information events on military pilot careers are set for 29 September 2026 at Forum Fribourg and 17 November 2026 at Messe Luzern. Candidates have 18 months between registration and screening to prepare.

The main contact phone is +41 41 375 01 06. The pilot screening centre phone is +41 58 460 25 19. The main contact office is open Monday to Thursday, 8:00 to 11:30 and 13:00 to 16:00, and Friday, 8:00 to 11:30.
