TaxiBot and APU-off solutions for zero ground emissions

Smart Airport Systems

About Smart Airport Systems

Smart Airport Systems (SAS), an Alvest Group company, supplies ground equipment that lets aircraft stop using their engines and auxiliary power units on the ground. Its stated goal is Zero Ground Emissions: eliminating emissions during ground time, taxi, turnaround and handling by replacing fuel-based systems with electric alternatives. The company says its solutions have contributed to saving more than 2.7 million tonnes of CO2 since 2019 at airports worldwide.

Solutions

  • TaxiBot: a pilot-controlled aircraft taxiing vehicle that tows the aircraft with engines off from the gate to the engine start-up position near the runway. According to the site, aircraft taxiing on their engines burn up to 600 kg of fuel an hour, and TaxiBot cuts taxiing CO2 emissions by up to 78 percent.
  • APU-off systems: pre-conditioned air (PCA) units and 400 Hz ground power that supply aircraft at the gate during turnaround, reducing fuel burn, emissions and noise; the site cites a reduction of up to 69 percent of CO2 from stationary aircraft
  • The PV90-4 air conditioning unit
  • Electric ground support equipment

SAS offers these innovations to airports and airlines with no investment and no risk on their side, through service models.
