About Skyward Experimental Rocketry

Skyward Experimental Rocketry is a student association at Politecnico di Milano in Milan, Italy. It was founded in 2012. Its aim is to design and launch sounding rockets. The association is split into departments, and each one works on a different part of the rocket.

The association builds rockets for the European Rocketry Challenge, known as EuRoC, held in Portugal. Each new rocket builds on the work of the one before. The site shows a series of rockets from 2013 onward, and it lists the team for each year.

Orion is the fifth rocket in the association's Constellations Program. It was built for the 3000 metre hybrid category at EuRoC 2025. Its first launch ended early after an engine problem. The rocket was recovered, repaired, and flown again in less than 26 hours. The second flight reached an apogee of 2990.6 metres and landed 18 metres from the target. The rocket won a Design Award.

Lyra, from 2024, is the association's second hybrid rocket. It was built for the SRAD Hybrid 3000 metre category at EuRoC 2024. Aeneas, also from 2024, is a demonstration liquid rocket engine. The team built it from start to finish. Production began in February 2024 and tests began in May. Gemini, from 2023, added a hybrid engine called Furia.

Older projects include Pyxis in 2022, which carried a 1U CubeSat payload and used a guided parafoil for recovery. Chimaera was a hybrid rocket engine built between 2020 and 2022. Lynx, in 2021, was the association's first competition rocket. The site also lists the Hermes and Rocksanne projects.

The site lists eleven departments. These are aerodynamics, control systems, electronics, logistics, media, mission analysis, propulsion, recovery, software, structural dynamics, and structure. Recruiting happens in set windows. New positions only open outside those windows for time-critical project needs.

The address is Via Privata Giuseppe La Masa 22 in Milan. The site has a contact page and a list of frequently asked questions. Updates are posted on Instagram.
