About Shine Micro

Shine Micro designs and makes receivers for the Automatic Identification System, known as AIS. AIS is a radio system that ships use to share their position. The company builds receivers for aircraft, unmanned systems and shore stations. It says it has designed electronics based on microprocessors since 1980.

The company began with a focus on marine VHF radio. Today it offers AIS products for maritime and avionics use, for aids to navigation and for self contained solar powered beacons. Its uses include intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, maritime domain awareness, airborne surveillance, asset tracking and unmanned aircraft.

For aircraft, Shine Micro offers the RadarPlus SA161-MH. It is a military specification AIS receiver for avionics. It sits in a shielded aluminum case with surfaces that work with night vision systems. The company says the case is corrosion resistant, light and rugged. Uses include vessel tracking, maritime surveillance and search and rescue.

The site says its avionics receivers are off the shelf and used by many governments and agencies. They fly on many aircraft types, including P-3 and P-8 airplanes, MH-60 helicopters and unmanned aircraft such as ScanEagle, Integrator and Fire Scout.

The RadarPlus SM1610-4 is a long range dual AIS receiver with a low noise amplifier. The site says it is standard equipment for the United States Navy and the United States Coast Guard. It can also analyze VHF data link signals, which helps port authorities.

The SM1610 series was chosen by the Coast Guard for its Nationwide AIS network. The SM1680, called Octopus, allows real time monitoring of the 200 nautical mile Exclusive Economic Zone. It does this without the delay and cost of a satellite subscription.

Shine Micro says it supports commercial, government and military customers worldwide in the maritime, aerospace and defense fields. Its website has product pages, installation tools and accessories, and overviews of AIS and of the Maritime Mobile Service Identity. It also carries industry news and a contact page.
