About Radboudumc Mobiel Medisch Team

Radboudumc's Mobiel Medisch Team, or MMT, is a mobile emergency team in Nijmegen. It is part of MMT Netherlands. The site says the team is sent when fast specialist care is needed after a call to 112. Its doctors and nurses are employed by Radboudumc.

The team has three members. These are a specialist doctor, an anaesthesiologist or trauma surgeon, a specialist nurse in emergency or ambulance care, and a pilot when a helicopter is used. All of them have extra medical and flying training for this work.

The site says about 90 percent of patients travel by ambulance, often with the MMT doctor. A helicopter is used only when the patient's condition allows it and it clearly saves time. The ambulance can stop at the roadside to give medical care. A car is used when the helicopter cannot fly, for example because of weather or technical problems.

The site says the team is on its way within 2 minutes of a call, or 5 minutes at night. The team has a helicopter and a specially equipped priority vehicle. It works with ambulance nurses so the patient reaches the right hospital.

The management team includes a medical coordinator, a chief nurse and a chief pilot. The business manager is listed separately. The site says the team is part of MMT Netherlands, and links to the national MMT site.

The contact is the team secretariat at (0413) 27 50 61. The site also has a contact form and says people can ask for a follow up talk after an incident.
