About Planetek Italia

Planetek Italia is an Italian company founded in 1994. It is part of the D-Orbit group. The company works in geoinformatics, end to end space systems and Earth observation.

Planetek says it works in all phases of the life cycle of geolocated data. It builds geospatial services and systems that create knowledge to support decisions and operations. These serve several sectors and areas of use.

A main project shown on the site is AI-eXpress, or AIX. The first mission, AIX-1p, is named "Caution: Edge Ahead". It was launched on 14 January 2025 on a SpaceX Falcon 9 from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. It is the first of three satellites planned for launch in 2025. Planetek built them with its partners D-Orbit and AIKO.

The project is co-funded by the InCubed program of the European Space Agency. It uses artificial intelligence and blockchain in space. The aim is to make satellites faster to react and to deliver information with low delay. AIX offers a hybrid edge and cloud setup on a platform in low Earth orbit. It carries Earth observation payloads, deployable cubesats and a software framework that manages sensors and resources on board. The chief executive, Giovanni Sylos Labini, calls it the base for a digital Earth observation constellation.

The company says it was named among the Top 100 companies shaping the future of geospatial technology by Geoawesome. The site also has a contact point for customers who want to suggest quality improvements.
