About Myanmar National Airlines

Myanmar National Airlines, or MNA, is the national flag carrier of Myanmar. The airline says it has the widest route network inside the country. It says it has existed for more than 77 years, which makes it one of the oldest airlines in Asia.

MNA began in 1948 as Union of Burma Airways, or UBA. It first flew to 19 domestic points using De Havilland Dove aircraft. The site says all of those places are still on its schedule. International flights began in 1950, linking Rangoon with Bangkok, Calcutta and Chittagong.

In 1989 the airline was renamed Myanmar Airways and kept its UB airline code. Later it launched a new domestic service in 2014 with fixed schedules and new booking and airport systems. It added a Premium Economy cabin on its Embraer 190 aircraft. It then returned to international flying with regional jet services to neighbouring countries.

A later step was the arrival of new Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The airline says these jets let it grow its international network. Fares on the home page include Bangkok, Singapore, Chiang Mai and Dawei. Domestic guides cover Bagan, Mandalay, Kawthaung and Nay Pyi Taw.

MNA is a member of the International Air Transport Association, known as IATA. It has passed the IATA Operational Safety Audit, called IOSA. The site lists IOSA certified as part of its operational excellence.

Besides passenger flights, the airline lists several other services. These include ground handling, airport services, cargo service, charter services and engineering and maintenance. A frequent flyer program called MNA Club lets members earn and redeem miles.

Travellers can plan trips, find a booking and check in on the web. They can also read about airport lounges, baggage rules and the Myanmar eVisa. The MNA website has the flight schedule, route map, fleet details and customer service pages.
