About Montana Aerospace
Montana Aerospace develops and makes lightweight parts and structures for the aviation industry and the energy industry. The group says it has a global reach in development and production. It works with several materials, which it calls multi-material skill. It has sites in Europe, the Americas and Asia.
Its main work is parts that carry heavy loads on aircraft. Some structural pieces are more than 20 meters long. They are used in the fuselage, the wings and the landing gear. The company also makes key links for engine mounts. It builds engine parts that face high heat and stress. It also makes working parts for aircraft cabin interiors.
Montana Aerospace describes itself as a highly integrated full-service supplier. It says it supports the local-to-local plan of its customers, which means building near where the customer needs the part. It names the world's major aircraft makers and their tier 1 suppliers as partners. Tier 1 suppliers sell directly to the aircraft makers.
The company controls many steps itself. This is called vertical integration. It starts with recycling raw material and ends with putting whole assemblies together. The group calls this its all-in-one site concept. It says a shorter supply chain cuts delivery times, lowers carbon dioxide from transport and saves cost.
The website lists the steps in detail. They include recycling of scrap, casting of alloys, and extrusion of aluminium, titanium, hard metals and tubes. Extrusion means pushing metal through a shaped opening. Metal forming methods include roll forming, stretch forming, elastoforming and joggling. More than 150 CNC machines cut critical parts to tight limits. Surface treatment lines are fully automatic, and waste water plants are built to be gentle on the environment.
Montana Aerospace runs four rod casting plants. They make billets, which are metal blocks for pressing, from many aluminium alloys. These include hard aerospace alloys of the 2xxx, 6xxx and 7xxx series, and also the 1xxx, 3xxx and 5xxx series. The casting plants sit next to the extrusion presses. The company says it uses about 100 percent recycled aluminium as starting material in its aerospace products.
The website has sections on the company, business segments, management, investors, press and sustainability. It also has contact details for the Swiss and Austrian offices and a sign-up for the investor newsletter. The head office is in Vienna, Austria.
