Marywood University

Marywood University is a private Catholic university in Scranton, Pennsylvania. It sits in the foothills of the Pocono Mountains in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The campus covers 115 acres in a historic residential neighborhood. The university is comprehensive and independent and serves more than 3,100 students. It was founded in 1915 and offers a close knit community with the advantages of a larger university.

The university offers more than 90 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. It offers two aviation management programs for students interested in the aviation industry. One track focuses on airline and airport operations. The other track focuses on pilot and flight operations. Students can also choose from over 80 majors across arts, sciences, healthcare, business, and other fields.

Marywood has an 11 to 1 student to faculty ratio. The university states that 87 percent of full time faculty members hold the highest degree in their field. First year students can often begin courses in their major on the first day. Small class sizes allow for a high level of personal attention and mentoring.

The university reports that 99 percent of first time students receive financial aid. It also reports a career or graduate school placement rate of 99 percent or higher. Support services include academic success resources, tutoring, a library, and pre collegiate programs. Intensive English programs are available for international students.

Campus life includes 23 Division III varsity athletics teams called the Pacers. Students can take part in student events, dining, and student run media. The school also has a veterans center, a Marian chapel, and health and wellness clinics. Faith and service opportunities are part of daily life at the university.

The campus is near Wilkes Barre Scranton International Airport and several state parks. It is within two hours of New York City and Philadelphia by car. Students have access to hiking, kayaking, biking, and other outdoor recreation in the Pocono Mountains. The region also includes shopping areas and many restaurants.
