About Maglev Aero

Maglev Aero is developing a magnetically levitated electric propulsion system for aircraft. The company calls it the MagLev HyperDrive. The system is meant for urban air mobility and other aircraft types. The company says it does not build aircraft. It builds the propulsion system for them.

The system uses a rim-driven rotor. The rotor drives the blade tips directly. The site says this prevents tip vortices and cuts noise. The rotor runs at lower speeds with many more blades. The site says this gives higher efficiency and lower noise than helicopters and multi-rotor eVTOL aircraft.

The site compares its ducted design with an unducted rotor. It says a plain duct gives 20 to 40 percent more thrust per unit of power. It says the MagLev design gives 50 to 62 percent more.

The site lists several concept products. The exoCargo carries 250 to 500 lbs on one pallet, with up to 60 mph speed and under 50 dBA noise. The Quad Cargo carries 500 to 750 lbs on two pallets. The HyperDelta is a blended wing body concept that carries three pallets over up to 400 miles.

The company says its engineers cover aerodynamics, aeromechanics, aeroacoustics and electrodynamics. It says these specialists work with customer design teams to improve vehicle performance. The site lists pages for partners, investors and media coverage.
