About Lydd Aero Club

Lydd Aero Club is a flight training club at Lydd Airport on the South East coast of England. The site describes it as an Approved Training Organisation. The club was established in 2000, according to the site.

The club offers trial lessons, Private Pilot's Licence training, multi engine training, night flying and ground school for PPL examinations. Other options include a fast track to PPL, block rates, starter packs and group ownership schemes.

Training is done in Piper Cherokee aircraft. The site says the instructors are CAA qualified, and many are ex or current commercial pilots. Trial lessons count as real flying lessons and can be recorded in a logbook.

The site says the airport has a 1,500 metre runway with PAPI approach lights, ILS, RNAV, NDB and VOR and DME navigation aids. Avgas and Avtur fuel is available during operating hours. Maintenance facilities are on site on weekdays.

Students practise cross country flights to nearby airfields such as Southend, Shoreham, Goodwood and Lee on Solent. The club runs group ownership schemes with set rules for shared aircraft.

The site sells trial lesson and gift vouchers. It warns that some other companies sell short timed flights, where briefings take much of the time. Contact is by phone at 01797 320734.

The site includes FAQs about the voucher process, booking and special needs. It lists what to wear for a first lesson and how a trial lesson works. The club says some instructors have been with it since it was established. The club's ground school includes facilities for the Private Pilot's Licence examinations, so students can complete theory exams on site. The site describes above average flying weather and open airspace up to 5,500 feet around the airport. The site describes the club's group ownership rules and lists Group One, Group Three and Group Five options. It also lists a night flying page and a multi engine training page for pilots who want more ratings.
