Lift Aircraft
HEXA personal electric aircraft developer based in Austin, Texas
About Lift Aircraft
LIFT Aircraft offers flight experiences in an electric multi rotor aircraft called Hexa. The company is based in Austin, Texas. The company does not sell aircraft. Instead, it offers flying as an experience. LIFT says it is the first company in the world to offer electric multi rotor flying as an experience. LIFT believes everyone should be able to experience personal, vertical flight.
Passengers do not need a runway or a pilot's license. The Hexa is compliant with the FAA's Powered Ultralight classification, so no pilot's license is required to fly it. The entry option is a two hour training and introductory flight experience in Austin, Texas, for $199.
The Hexa is an entirely new type of aircraft that anyone can fly. Hexa uses distributed electric propulsion. The eighteen independent electric motors and propellers are the only moving parts needed for stable, controlled flight. The airframe is built entirely from carbon fiber and weighs 432 pounds.
Hexa is simple to fly. A triply redundant autopilot computer and a single three axis joystick are all that is needed to fly. Or it can be flown from a seven inch touchscreen in a mode the company calls Look mom, no hands.
Hexa can fly and land safely with up to six motors disabled. It also has an autonomous ballistic parachute. Hexa can land on both land and water. It has four perimeter floats and a fifth center float filled with foam for buoyancy and hard landing protection.
Visitors can book a flight online, book group and event flights, buy gift cards or join the waitlist for new cities. The website has a cancellation policy, a FAQ page, a news section and a careers page.
LIFT plans to open locations in scenic, uncongested areas near major cities, tourist destinations and entertainment hubs across the US. The first cities will be chosen based on demand from people who join the waitlist. LIFT has been covered by 60 Minutes, TODAY, CNBC, Vice, Engadget and New Atlas.
