About LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation
The LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation gives scholarships to people who want to become pilots. The foundation is based in Marlton, New Jersey, at P.O. Box 268. It is named for LeRoy Homer, a pilot who was flying on United Flight 93 on September 11, 2001.
The foundation offers scholarships for flight training. Its site has an application page, tips on Part 61 and Part 141 training, and notes about PRIA and checkrides. It lists current and past scholarship recipients, and a 2026 group of recipients was announced.
LeRoy Homer began flight training at 15 in a Cessna 152 and soloed at 16. He earned his private pilot certificate in 1983. He entered the Air Force Academy and flew the C-141B Starlifter at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey. He served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
After active duty, he served as a reservist with the 356th Airlift Squadron and as an Academy Liaison Officer. He joined United Airlines in 1995 and flew the B727 and then the B757 and B767. The site says he has received many awards and citations posthumously for his actions on Flight 93.
The foundation has an endowment page, a donors page and a sponsors page. A shop sells T-shirts, caps and patches. The site says the scholarship application window for 2027 opens October 31. The foundation also has a newsletter and a gallery.
The foundation is part of the Combined Federal Campaign and has earned Candid's Gold Seal, according to the home page. It runs events such as a 9/11 5K and one mile walk. The contact page lists a freephone number, a fax number and a mailing address in Evesham, New Jersey.
