LAMA

The Light Aircraft Manufacturers Association (LAMA) is a not-for-profit trade association for the light sport aircraft (LSA) and light aircraft industry. Its website says it was founded in 1984 and that its members are manufacturers, suppliers and service providers. Their products and services are meant to meet civil aviation authority safety requirements worldwide, mainly through self-declarative means of compliance. LAMA says it is the only association fully dedicated to this area of aviation.

Who it represents

LAMA members cover all categories, classes and types of flying craft up to four seats. The site lists light sport, kit-built, eVTOL, powered lift, ultralight, microlight and emerging technologies. Members shown on the home page include ICON Aircraft, Microair Avionics and Blackshape.

What LAMA does for members

The association says it began LSA advocacy in earnest in 2014 and has met senior FAA executives. It has also raised the issue of European and other foreign built aircraft over 600 kg or with a stall speed above 45 knots that cannot be sold in the United States under the current rules.
