International Test Pilots School

International Test Pilots School, or ITPS, trains test pilots and flight test engineers. The school was set up in the United Kingdom in 1986. It now sits at London International Airport in Ontario, Canada. It has trained flight test people in Canada since 2001. Its students are civil and military pilots and engineers.

ITPS is approved by EASA as an approved training organization. Its approved courses cover civil pilot CAT-1 and CAT-2 flight test ratings. They also cover lead flight testing engineer courses. Courses run for both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. The school says more than 30 full-time instructors teach them.

Military customers can take a one-year course at master's level. The Society of Experimental Test Pilots and the Society of Flight Test Engineers recognize it. The school says students from over 25 air arms have graduated. ITPS can also grant degrees. It offers Master of Science programs in flight test engineering and in flight testing. Students can take them as part of a course or on their own.

Students work in an active flight test organization. The site says this covers aircraft changes and upgrades, avionics development and testing of fly-by-wire flight controls. The school also lists an avionics flight test program. It lists test and evaluation training for unmanned aircraft systems, with practical flying. A consulting arm offers contract flight test services, including test pilots, engineers and analysts.

The training fleet is varied. Photos on the site show a Bo-106 and an L-39 aircraft. The school says it works with industry experts so graduates learn current flight test practice.

Recent news on the site includes a flight test seminar. It also notes that founder Giorgio Clementi was named to Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame Class of 2027. The school also presented a project called ACE at a symposium of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots.
