About International Board of Specialty Certification
The International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC) runs specialty certification exams for critical care professionals. The site says the board is responsible for creating and running these exams. The office is listed at 300 Lockwood Road, Red Rock, TX 78662.
The board offers several certifications. These include Flight Paramedic (FP-C), Critical Care Paramedic (CCP-C), Community Paramedic (CP-C), Tactical Paramedic (TP-C), Tactical Responder (TR-C), Designated Infection Control Officer (DICO-C), Wilderness Paramedic (WP-C) and a Maternal Fetal Transport Microcredential (MFT).
The site gives some history. In the mid-1990s, a credentialing process for critical care transport paramedics began. The NFPA, now I-CAPP, gave support to the first Flight Paramedic exam. The board was formed in the summer of 2000 so the exam body would be independent. The board then developed the CCP-C, TP-C and TR-C exams.
The exams can be taken in several ways. These include a computer-based test, a paper and pencil or onsite test, mobile exam delivery and live remote proctoring. The site says there are over 800 testing centers in the US and nearly 100 international testing sites. Fees are listed for affiliate members and for non-members.
The site has a candidate handbook for each certification. It has a tool to verify certification holders and a list of approved review courses. Employers can buy exams and recertifications, and programs can earn a recognition award.
The site states the board's mission. It says the board works to improve the quality of care from paramedics and other health professionals who work in specialty settings. It does this by measuring and validating their knowledge and skills.
The site lists a phone line, +1 770-978-4400, and a contact form. It has social media accounts on X, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
