Horizon Aircraft
Hybrid electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft developer in Burlington, Ontario
About Horizon Aircraft
Horizon Aircraft is an aerospace and defense original equipment manufacturer. The site says it was co-founded in 2013 by an elite fighter pilot. The company builds the Cavorite X7, a hybrid-electric eVTOL aircraft. The company is listed on NASDAQ, and it uplisted in January 2024. The site does not name a head office city.
The Cavorite X7 uses HOVR fan-in-wing technology. Its fans are inside the wing and are powered by electric motors for vertical takeoff. Once at flying altitude, the wings cover the fans and the aircraft moves to gas-powered forward flight. The site says the aircraft flies at twice the speed of a helicopter. The prototype carries one pilot and up to six people, with up to 1,500 pounds of useful load.
The site lists performance figures for the large-scale prototype. It gives a maximum speed of 460 km/h and a maximum range of 800 km. It gives a payload of 680 kg. The site also lists an operating cost of $0.97 per available seat mile for a 500 mile trip. The site says the aircraft does not need a runway or ground charging.
The company lists missions for the X7. These include medevac, search and rescue, business travel, critical cargo, remote communities and defense. The site says the aircraft can move an injured patient to a hospital nearly twice as fast as a traditional helicopter. It also says the aircraft can respond to natural disasters more quickly.
The site lists milestones. A sub-scale prototype first flew in March 2021. A large-scale prototype flew untethered in May 2024 and completed a full wing transition flight in May 2025. In February 2026, RAMPF Composites was named to make the fuselage and North Aircraft was named to make the wings. The site lists the phone number 613.866.1935 and a contact form for defense, media and purchasing inquiries.
