About GAUSS Srl

GAUSS Srl is a space technology company based in Rome, Italy. The name stands for Group of Astrodynamics for the Use of Space Systems. The company works on microsatellites and related technology. It was founded in 2012.

The company grew out of a university research group. That group was set up at the Laboratory of Astrodynamics at the School of Aerospace Engineering of the University of Rome Sapienza. Professor Filippo Graziani held the chair of Applied Astrodynamics there from 1978 to 2010. His former student Chantal Cappelletti is the co-founder. The group today has permanent collaborators, young graduates and consultants who cover different themes of space systems.

Work on the UniSat program began in the early nineties at the school. Members handled design, ground testing, integration, launch and ground operations. The first microsatellite, UniSat, was built by university students and launched in September 2000. Several small satellites followed, up to UniSat 7.

The site lists two projects. AD ASTRA is run with the School of Aerospace Engineering. It looks at ramjet engines for small launchers and includes building a supersonic wind tunnel for testing. DEOS is a deorbiting system for CubeSats. It uses a small solar sail that raises atmospheric drag so a satellite re-enters sooner and adds less space debris. DEOS was part funded by Lazio Innova, with a total cost of 818,122 euros and 500,386.48 euros financed, from January 2024 to July 2025.

The menu names products such as an on-board computer, Abacus, a radio, a 2W and 5W USB dongle and a deployer. The site also has pages on services, facilities, satellites and careers. The company says it works with SIA, ASI and other companies.
