ForeFlight is a flight planning and electronic flight bag software company formed in 2007 with the stated mission of creating software that makes flight planning easier. Its main office is in Houston, Texas, near the River Oaks neighbourhood, with further offices in Austin, Texas, Portland, Maine, and Odense, Denmark. The company serves individual pilots and flight departments in personal, business, military, commercial and education flying.

Products

ForeFlight Mobile, the flagship app for iPad and iPhone, is used to gather weather and destination information, route, plan and file flights, manage electronic charts and maps, and organise flight publications. Other products listed on the site include:

Features

The app combines a data-driven aeronautical map with IFR high and low enroute charts, procedure charts and AIP documents. In Europe, IFR charts are sourced from Eurocontrol and optional VFR charts come from DFS, Rogers Data, Air Million and Jeppesen. Flight plans are filed through the global filing network with automatic EUROCONTROL route validation. Weather layers include radar, satellite, icing, turbulence and cloud forecasts, GAFOR and METAR-derived conditions, with a PDF preflight briefing for the filed route. In flight, Profile View, Hazard Advisor and Synthetic Vision highlight terrain and obstacles, and the app connects to installed and portable devices for two-way flight plan transfer, ADS-B and FLARM traffic, AHRS and GPS position. Dynamic Procedures adds a sidebar with frequencies, route guidance and a 3D view of short final for IFR-capable airports in the US, Canada and Europe.

Cirrus checklist templates

ForeFlight Checklist, available with a Plus subscription plan, comes with pre-built templates for named aircraft models. The template list on foreflight.com includes the Cirrus SR20 G1/G2 and the Cirrus SR22 G1, G2, G3 Perspective and G5, alongside models from Cessna, Diamond, Mooney, Piper and others, so SR20 and SR22 pilots can start from a model-specific checklist and adapt it to their aircraft.

Sentry portable ADS-B receivers

ForeFlight's Sentry hardware line (Sentry Mini, Sentry and Sentry Plus) is described at flywithsentry.com, where the ForeFlight product page for Sentry now redirects. The receivers deliver subscription-free FIS-B weather (animated regional and CONUS NEXRAD, METARs, TAFs, AIR/SIGMETs, PIREPs, winds aloft, TFRs and NOTAMs), ADS-B traffic with audio and visual alerts, WAAS GPS position and a Wi-Fi network for up to five devices to ForeFlight Mobile on iPad and iPhone. Sentry Plus adds a multi-band antenna for European FLARM reception (with a licence bought separately), an automatic track log recorder and auto power on and off from ship power for Hobbs time tracking in ForeFlight Logbook; Sentry includes a carbon monoxide sensor and up to 30 minutes of weather replay memory. Prices shown on the Sentry site at the time of reading were US$449 and US$649 for the two higher models.
