Elemental Aviation
Block-rate time building in the Pipistrel Alpha Trainer at Spanish Fork, Utah
About Elemental Aviation
Elemental Aviation runs Elemental Pilot Development, a block-rate flying program for pilots who want to build flight time. It flies from Spanish Fork Airport, known as KSPK.
The program is built around the climb to the 1,500-hour airline transport pilot minimum. Pilots start from a commercial certificate with 250 hours. The program does not require a CFI certificate. It is open to every pilot who is building time, not only those heading to the airlines.
Pilots choose a block of 25, 50, 100 or 250 hours. All rates are published up front, and a larger block lowers the cost per hour. Elemental schedules dual occupancy whenever it can. Two pilots share the aircraft and split the cost, with rates from $80 to $87.50 per hour per pilot. Solo rates are listed too. A block of 50 hours or more includes the required 3-hour checkout flight with a CFI at no charge.
The fleet is made up of Pipistrel Alpha Trainers from 2023 or newer. Each has a 10 inch Garmin G3X Touch display, a Garmin autopilot, a Garmin GNX 375 navigator with ADS-B transponder and a Rotax 912UL engine. The aircraft burn about three gallons an hour. Every aircraft carries a Ballistic Parachute Rescue System and a one-touch Garmin level button. Elemental owns and maintains every aircraft it flies.
Pilots can log total, pilot in command, cross-country and night time. They can also log simulated instrument time with a safety pilot, and time in aircraft with a technically advanced glass panel. Night flying priority goes to pilots with fewer than 100 hours of night time. The company plans to add a multi-engine twin to the fleet in 2027, so pilots can build multi-engine time too.
Elemental says safety is stressed in every procedure, in line with its company standard operating procedures. The company also sells Pipistrel aircraft and offers maintenance and service for them.
