Colorado Northwestern Community College

Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) is a community college in northwest Colorado whose Rangely campus hosts its aviation programs. The college says its Aviation Technology Flight program has taught people to fly for more than fifty years. Flight training is based at Rangely Airport, a county facility managed by CNCC about two miles from the main campus.

Flight training

CNCC owns, operates and maintains its own training fleet and employs a full-time FAA certificated A&P mechanic at Rangely Airport. The college cites a ratio of about eight students per flight instructor, which allows a minimum of three flights per week per student, and it fields a nationally ranked intercollegiate flight team. Nearly $700,000 has been secured for improvements to Rangely Airport.

Aviation maintenance

The Aviation Maintenance Technology program is a five-semester program certificated by the FAA under 14 CFR Part 147. Students work on general aviation aircraft including a Cessna 152 or Piper Tomahawk, a twin-engine Cessna 337 and a Rockwell Sabreliner corporate jet. Graduates who pass their FAA exams meet licensure requirements in all 50 states and US territories.
