Membership association for Cirrus aircraft owners and pilots
About Cirrus Owners & Pilots Association
The Cirrus Owners & Pilots Association (COPA) is a non-profit membership association for owners and pilots of Cirrus aircraft, organised as a 501(c)(7) corporation. Its website states that it is not affiliated with Cirrus Aircraft, the manufacturer. COPA's stated mission is to connect members worldwide, encourage lifelong learning and make better and safer pilots through training, events and shared knowledge. A volunteer board of directors made up of pilots, enthusiasts and industry people runs the association.
What members get
- Member forums on ownership, maintenance, avionics, flying technique and buying and selling Cirrus aircraft
- COPA University and the Cirrus Pilot Proficiency Program (CPPP): recurrent safety training with ground school and flight instruction
- Articles, a magazine, the COPA.fyi resource site and the Ask COPA U service
- Events, fly-ins and the COPA Formation programme
- The Member Advantage Program, with member discounts from partners such as Boldmethod, Lightspeed, RealSimGear, Axis headsets, Propelling Aviation and GotPlugz, and reduced annual subscriptions for Cirrus aircraft
- Lifetime Achievement Awards for people who have shaped the Cirrus community
Safety and CAPS
COPA keeps a public history of Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS) events and publishes CAPS statistics: as of March 2023 its site counted 253 survivors returned to their families, and it states that no one has died when CAPS was deployed above 1,000 feet above the ground and below the 200 knot indicated Vne. The COPA Safety and Education Foundation, a separate 501(c)(3) charity, supports the association's safety and education work and is funded partly through the partner programme. The site also carries the COPA Commander tool, an online store, publications and a donation page, and members post reviews of airports and FBOs that other members use when planning trips. Membership and event fees vary; details are on the Join COPA page.
