About Certified Flyers

Certified Flyers is a flight school at Morristown Municipal Airport (KMMU) in Morristown, New Jersey, founded in 1972. It trains from the Private Pilot certificate through advanced certificates and ratings up to the Airline Transport Pilot certificate, with a focus on glass cockpit and Technically Advanced Aircraft (TAA) training. The company also rents aircraft, runs a pilot shop and a Cirrus timeshare program, and says it has sent more than 50 pilots to regional airlines in six years.

Training

  • Private Pilot, including an accelerated 30-day course of 25 hours dual and 15 hours solo
  • Instrument Rating, including an accelerated 14-day course with 35 hours of ground instruction, 20 hours in the aircraft and 20 hours in the Elite RC-1 simulator
  • Commercial, multi-engine (rating, MEI and ATP courses in the Beechcraft Duchess) and flight instructor certificates
  • Professional Pilot Course for airline careers
  • G1000 transition and glass cockpit training on both Avidyne and Garmin G1000 panels
  • Introductory flights and gift certificates

Instruction follows a Jeppesen syllabus, and the school says most of its instructors hold degrees in education or aeronautical studies. After graduation the school can help locate an aircraft and arrange financing, insurance and maintenance. It is open seven days a week from 8 am to 6 pm.

Fleet and simulator

The site lists Cessna 172SP aircraft with KLN-94, Garmin 530 and G1000 avionics, the Cirrus SR20 and SR22, a Beechcraft Duchess and a Diamond Twin Star, plus an Elite RC-1 FAA-approved advanced aviation training device with a cockpit enclosure, instructor station and large-screen visual system.

Cirrus

Certified Flyers trains in Cirrus aircraft and provides training in all Cirrus SR models. Its Cirrus Transition Training course familiarizes owners and pilots with the aircraft, its systems and avionics, following the Cirrus recommended flight training syllabus for transition and recurrent training. A scenario-based Cirrus Recurrent course uses the simulator and the aircraft, and a Companion Course introduces frequent non-pilot passengers to the Cirrus cockpit. The Certified Aircraft Timeshare (CAT) program gives pilots 75 to 100 hours a year in an SR20 or SR22 under a contract of one to two years; it requires a private certificate, the Cirrus Transition Course, 20 hours in type to fly solo and an instrument rating for night flights.
