California Flight School

California Flight School operates at Van Nuys Airport and provides flight training for recreational, private, instrument, and commercial pilots. The school has been in business for more than 28 years and serves students across the Los Angeles area and Southern California. It offers hands on discovery flights for beginners who want to experience flying before starting a full course.

The school uses a pay as you go model with no large upfront payments required. Students can train at their own pace or choose accelerated programs. The career pilot course allows full time students to progress from zero experience to a commercial pilot certificate in about six to eight months. Financing options are available through third party providers for qualifying students.

Training courses include private pilot certificates, instrument ratings, commercial pilot certificates, and certified flight instructor courses. The school also offers a fourteen day private pilot finish up program, instrument rating courses ranging from ten days to three weeks, and commercial pilot training that can take one week to ten days once flight hour requirements are met. An online video ground school prepares students for FAA knowledge tests.

The fleet includes a Cirrus SR20 G3 with a Garmin G1000, Cessna 172 R and S models with GTN 650 avionics, Cessna 172 N and P models with GTN 650 avionics, a Piper PA 28 with a Garmin GTN 650, a Cessna 150 with a Garmin GTR 205, and a Piper Seneca twin. The school also operates an FAA certified BATD and a procedure simulator with triple fifty five inch screens. A Cirrus SR20 with glass cockpit, air conditioning, seat belt airbags, and the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System is available for training.

Additional services include aircraft rental and leaseback arrangements for owners of Piper, Cessna, and Cirrus aircraft. The school provides parking and hangar space at Van Nuys Airport. Staff members help students who are not United States citizens with TSA processing requirements. Training is available during daylight hours every day including weekends and holidays.

The school reports a consistent pass rate better than eighty percent for students. Graduates have gone on to fly for major airlines including Southwest Airlines, United Air Lines, Delta, and Jet Blue. Student reviews give the school a rating of four point nine out of five stars.
