California Airways

California Airways is a flight school and flying club at Hayward Executive Airport in Hayward, California. It was established in 1954. The company says it is the oldest flight school and flying club in the San Francisco Bay Area. It has taught thousands of pilots how to fly.

The school offers flight training for recreational pilots and career minded students. An introductory flight lesson lets newcomers decide if flying is right for them. Training continues through the private pilot license, instrument rating, and commercial license. The school also trains students for all three flight instructor ratings. Its pilot programs take students from zero flight time to commercial single and multi engine certificates.

California Airways is an FAA approved Part 141 flight school. It sponsors international students for the M 1 student visa. The school operates a pilot shop and an FAA approved flight simulator. The simulator uses G1000 avionics and allows students to log six hours of instrument time. Using the simulator can lower the total cost of flight training.

The fleet includes Cessna 152 and Cessna 172 aircraft. The school also lists complex high performance and multi engine aircraft. Pilots who already hold a certificate can rent an aircraft after a flight instructor checks them out. The school offers a leaseback program for aircraft owners who wish to offset ownership costs. Aircraft can be rented overnight or for several days.

The school provides flight reviews and instrument proficiency checks for certificated pilots. Instrument instructors on staff can conduct these checks. The flight simulator is also available for instrument recurrency training and practice.

The facility is open seven days a week from 9 am to 5 pm Pacific time. Flying outside of office hours is possible. Hayward Executive Airport is located beside Class B, C, and E airspace which provides varied training conditions.
