About BlueBear

BlueBear is a UK company that designs, builds and delivers uncrewed aerial systems for defence customers. The site calls it Saab's Autonomy Accelerator. It is based near Bedford, in the United Kingdom, and says it has more than two decades of experience.

Saab bought BlueBear in August 2023. It now serves as Saab UK's Autonomy Accelerator. The aim is to strengthen Saab's work in autonomy, uncrewed systems and command and control technology.

The company works with both government and industry customers. Its systems cover a range of missions. These include expendable target drones, persistent intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platforms, and swarming intercept systems. It also makes swarming command and control software.

Its platform family has three groups. The ISR family covers intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. The Counter-UAS Interceptor, called the I-100, is built to respond to airborne threats. The Target family gives realistic aerial threats for training, testing and capability work.

On the software side, FlightControl provides autonomous flight performance for single vehicles. SwarmCommand lets many different vehicles and remote sensors work together across several domains.

BlueBear also offers UAV prototyping as a service. The site says it has taken a concept from white paper to flying prototype in 90 days. It also supports prototype industrialisation, which means finding cheaper parts and a stronger supply chain for larger production.
