AXTAL GmbH

AXTAL GmbH is a German maker of frequency control devices. These are parts that keep electronic timing steady. The company calls itself an expert in frequency control and piezo sensors. It is based in Mosbach in Baden-Wurttemberg, southern Germany.

AXTAL began in 2003 as a spin-off from Tele Quarz. It was started by Bernd Neubig, a physicist and electronic engineer. The name stands for Advanced XTAL Products, since XTAL is short for crystal. In 2023 the company became an independent subsidiary of Q-Tech Corporation, an American maker of high-reliability crystal oscillators. Henry Halang, the former technical director, is now managing director.

The main products are crystal oscillators, SAW oscillators and frequency and timing modules. The site also lists voltage controlled, temperature compensated and oven controlled crystal oscillators. Other lines are vibration insensitive oscillators, phase-locked modules, masterclocks, atomic clocks and GPS-disciplined oscillators.

The company serves aerospace and defence, and space. It also serves test equipment, radar, microwave communication and military uses. Its parts are built for harsh conditions, very low noise and high stability. Some reach frequencies in the GHz range. There are also quartz crystal units and crystal filters for space use.

AXTAL covers the full chain in-house, from research and design to manufacturing, screening and testing. It has held ISO 9001 certification since 2008. In 2024 it upgraded to AS and DIN EN 9100, the quality standard for aerospace suppliers.

A new building is under way. The company is investing 6 million euros in a facility that will give it four times the space and room for more than 50 staff. Construction is on track to finish at the end of 2026. It is the third expansion in 20 years.

The calendar lists EuMW in London in October 2026, Electronica in Munich in November, and Space Tech Expo Europe in Bremen in November. The website also has a product catalog, application notes, technical articles, a quality section and a jobs page.
