About Aviation Technician Education Council
The Aviation Technician Education Council, known as ATEC, is a US membership group for aviation maintenance technician education. Its members are aviation employers, vendors and schools with maintenance technician programs. Its stated aim is to maintain and enhance the industry as a whole.
Core members are Aviation Maintenance Technician Schools that hold FAA certification under Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations part 147. All membership applications must be approved by the Board of Directors. The council invites eligible groups to join and encourages people to serve on its board.
ATEC runs the ATEC Academy, a 10-week program for instructors. It covers practical, modern teaching methods, from active learning and behavior management to assessment techniques and technology integration.
The council offers online training courses and information sessions on topics of interest to the community. People can register for future webinars and watch recorded sessions in an on-demand library. A member directory connects schools, employers and industry partners, so members can meet peers and update their details.
ATEC keeps a collection of regulations, certification standards, policy, guidance and program resources for aviation maintenance schools. It is especially useful for programs that are seeking or thinking about part 147 certification.
The council holds a conference, with sponsorship and exhibitor options. The next one is planned for April 4 to 7 in Wichita. ATEC also publishes a Pipeline Report on the aviation technical workforce, and its 2026 report says growth continues.
Its board includes people from airlines, colleges, technical schools and maintenance companies, including American Airlines, United Airlines, Duncan Aviation and Liberty University.
