Athens International Airport

Athens International Airport, known as AIA, runs a website for travellers who use the airport in Athens, Greece. The site covers flights, parking, transport, travel procedures and passenger services. It also carries notices that apply to people flying from the airport.

The site asks passengers to arrive at least 2.5 hours before a scheduled departure. That time covers check-in, security screening and passport control, where it applies. Late arrival at the departure gate may result in denied boarding, the site warns.

Since 30 March 2026, the European Union Entry/Exit System (EES) has been fully in place for third-country nationals travelling to and from the Schengen Area. The site says passport control may be significantly affected, which can lead to long waiting times.

From 8 September 2026, checked baggage that contains a prohibited or dangerous item may be opened and screened without the passenger present. The site lists power banks, explosive or incendiary substances and flammable materials as examples. Passengers should check the contents of their bags before they check in.

The site also says Greece's old format ID cards will no longer be accepted for international travel from 4 August 2026. Passengers may travel with new style Greek ID cards or Greek passports. A designated point for passengers with disabilities at the Suburban Railway Station is temporarily unavailable because of works.
