About American Winds

American Winds College of Aeronautics, also called AWIN, is an FAA approved Part 141 flight school and accredited aviation college. It is based at Akron Fulton Airport in Akron, Ohio. The site says the college has taught pilots for 25 years.

The school offers a private pilot license program and a commercial pilot license program. It also offers a commercial pilot fast track, an associate degree, a bachelor's degree and an instrument rating. A rotary transition program helps helicopter pilots move to fixed wing flying.

The site says the associate degree costs about half of a traditional bachelor's program. It can be finished in 18 to 24 months. The commercial fast track takes 12 to 20 months, depending on the program. The site says a recreational pilot can finish the private pilot program in as little as six weeks. Graduates can complete their certified flight instructor certificate and get paid to fly while building hours.

The site says all graduates qualify to work for commercial airlines. It also says students pass the FAA knowledge exam at a 97 percent rate. The site lists four awards and says the school has trained over 100 students from 13 countries.

The school says it accepts VA benefits. It also lists financial aid loans, including student loans through Edly. The site lists a discovery flight, which lets new students fly with an instructor. The school says it hires its own graduates and helps them network.

The school's phone number is 330-733-2500. The campus is at 1600 Triplett Boulevard, Building B, in Akron, Ohio. The site has a flight scheduler, an academic catalog and a campus page. It also has a partnerships page. The site describes a campus tour, and visitors can meet pilots in person to ask about their experience. The site also lists a blog.
