Aircraft disassembly and end-of-life management, Gloucestershire UK
About Air Salvage International
Air Salvage International (ASI) is one of the world's largest privately owned providers of aircraft disassembly. It was the first in Europe to offer this service. The company has traded for 29 years. It is based at Cotswold Airport in Gloucestershire, where its Centre of Excellence is.
The company is a founding member of the Aircraft Fleet Recycling Association (AFRA). It holds Diamond KPI level status, which the company describes as its highest level of recognition. It has maintained ISO 9001 since 2004 and ISO 14001 since 2007. The company has completed over 1,600 disassembly and recovery projects.
The site at Cotswold Airport has 100,000 square feet of climate-controlled storage for engines and components. It can park up to 50 narrowbody and 20 widebody aircraft. The runway can take the Airbus A380. The site also has an on-site fabrication team, HMRC bonded warehousing and environmentally compliant airframe and fluid disposal.
Its end-of-life asset management covers component recovery, cleaning and inspection, inventory control and tagging, and packing, crating and shipping, including hazardous materials. Through its affiliate GCAM, it provides approved maintenance services, including line maintenance with A checks and engine and APU removal and installation. Consignee services are offered through its component affiliate Skyline Aero.
The company runs a quick response team for incidents at airports across the UK, the Channel Islands and Ireland. It is an approved recovery agent for many regional airports and operators, including Southampton Airport. Its airframe work covers military and commercial aircraft, and it has completed over 50 disassembly, transport and rebuild projects for insurers, loss adjusters, museums, private clients and the Ministry of Defence.
Its past projects include dismantling, moving and rebuilding two Concorde aircraft for British Airways. Those aircraft are now displayed at the National Museum of Flight in Edinburgh and Brooklands Museum in Surrey. It also disassembled an RAF Nimrod for the Royal Air Force Museum at Cosford. The company has supplied modified fuselages for Hollywood films and has supported BBC programmes.
The company also supplies expertly cut cabin sections to colleges and training organisations. In 2012, it supplied Thorpe Park in Surrey with a bespoke section for Europe's largest wing coaster, The Swarm.
