About Africa World Airlines

Africa World Airlines, or AWA, is a privately owned airline based in Ghana. It was founded by Togbe Afede XIV. The company was set up on 15 November 2010. Its first revenue flight took place on 21 September 2012.

AWA flies to key cities in West Africa. In Ghana, it serves Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale. The site lists up to 8 flights a day to Kumasi, up to 3 to Takoradi and up to 4 to Tamale. The airline also flies to Lagos and Abuja in Nigeria, to Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso, and to Abidjan in Cote d'Ivoire. These routes run several times a week.

The airline has partnerships with international carriers. The about page names South African Airways, Emirates, Brussels Airlines, ASKY Airlines, United Airlines and Ethiopian Airlines. The company says these links help it offer cost effective trips for leisure and business travelers. The page also shows a staff of 402.

AWA sells charter flights. The charter service uses a 50-seater aircraft with jet engines. The airline says it can operate charters on all of its routes, with direct point-to-point schedules. It also takes group bookings for ten or more travelers. These offer special group fares, held quotes, a single invoice and billing in the currency the client prefers. Names can be changed until tickets are issued.

The website gives passengers tools to manage a trip. It lists online booking, real-time updates, baggage management, digital boarding passes, secure payments and round the clock support. Passengers can pay by debit or credit card, at sales offices, at several named banks, or by mobile money through the call center. The airline also runs a frequent flyer program.

AWA states its mission as connecting Africa to the world with efficient, safe and reliable air transport. Its listed values are safety, punctuality, reliability, efficiency and commitment. The site also names Fangda Group as a partner. Fangda is a large Chinese group with five sectors: carbon, steel, medicine, commerce and aviation.

The website is available in English and French. It has pages for booking, contact, the frequent flyer program, a blog and company information. It also shows travel notices, such as health and travel forms that some passengers must fill in before they fly to Lagos, Abuja or Ouagadougou. The company lists job openings as well.
