AeroVision LEX

AeroVision LEX is a Cirrus focused flight training and aircraft management company at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, Kentucky. Its WestLEX Hangar is at the west end of the airport. The company describes its services as one pathway with four stages: discover, train, access and own. It serves people who want to learn to fly, rent a plane, or own one.

Discovery flights give a first taste of the controls in a Cirrus, or can be a working trip, such as a meeting two states away. Training covers private, instrument, commercial and ATP ratings. Instruction comes from Cirrus standardized instructors, including CSIP and TCI instructors, in the same Cirrus aircraft that students fly afterward. The company says training uses one airframe philosophy from the first lesson to the last checkride.

Membership and rental are for pilots who fly often but do not yet own a plane. Members get priority booking and member rates by the hour. They can fly the current generation Cirrus fleet on their own schedule. Tours and discovery flights are scheduled in advance.

The ownership practice covers acquisition, maintenance, scheduling, insurance and pilot services. Owners can fly their own airplane without running a small business. Leaseback is also offered, and for the right owner it can turn the math from intimidating to interesting.

The fleet has three Cirrus aircraft. The SR20 is the airplane students learn on. The SR22T is the one students grow into, with turbocharged power for longer trips. The Vision Jet is the step up.

The SR20 has a 215 horsepower Lycoming engine. It cruises at 155 knots, has a range of 709 nautical miles and a ceiling of 17,500 feet. It seats five. It has a Cirrus Perspective Touch+ flight deck and a whole airframe parachute as standard equipment. The G7+ adds Safe Return autoland, a single button that lets any passenger bring the airplane down to a safe landing if the pilot is incapacitated.

The SR22T is the fleet's turbocharged single. It has a 315 horsepower Continental engine, cruises at 213 knots and has a range of 1,021 nautical miles. Its ceiling is 25,000 feet and it seats five. The Vision Jet is a single engine personal jet. It cruises at 311 knots, has a range of 1,275 nautical miles, a ceiling of 31,000 feet and seats seven.
